OKIOK wins second place at prestigious NSEC 2013 Hacking Competition

Congratulations are in order for the OKIOK team for their extraordinary performance which led them to a second place finish at the NSEC 2013 competition held from Friday April 5 to Sunday April 7 at ETS in Montreal.

The NSEC is a hacking competition where 18 teams of 8 members compete by attacking a virtual company . The teams must demonstrate that they actually managed to defeat the controls and various virtual “booby traps” that were set by the organizers by capturing “flags” that must be verified by the technical committee to confirm the validity of each exploit.

Kudos, to all members of the team made up of Daniel Boteanu, Michael Lahaye, Mario Contestabile, François Xavier Desmarais, Eric Vigeant, Jonathan Roy and rounded up by Gabriel Desmarais and Guenael Jouchet. Please note that Eric is the only participant who managed to successfully complete the smart card challenge.

Here are some pictures from the event

The battle between OKIOK and “Amish Overflow”, the team who systematically won all other competitions was too close to call on Sunday, as indicated by the scoreboard at 12:00:

In fact, it seems that OKIOK was still leading the score as late as 13h53 when Amish brought in a flag that opened several doors for them and raised their score.

By the time the dust settled, the final score was 169 points for Amish against 152 for OKIOK…

Kudos are also in order for the quality and professionalism of the event as well as of the technical challenges. The big smiles on the participant’s faces stands as proof of the fun they had testing their skills in the many sophisticated hurdles that the technical team cooked up.
